【English: The "Victory Insect" with Shimmering Raden】
This is an exquisite antique Makie Netsuke featuring a "Dragonfly" design, believed to date from the Edo to Meiji period.
Crafted with fine gold powder sprinkled onto deep black lacquer (Makie), this Netsuke evokes a star-filled sky. The highlight is the Raden (mother-of-pearl inlay) on the dragonflies' wings, which shimmers with a natural, rainbow-like iridescence.
The dragonfly was known by Samurai as the "Victory Insect" (Kachi-mushi) because it never flies backward. This makes it a powerful symbol of courage and forward progress. This is a rare example of Japanese martial spirit and artistic beauty condensed into a miniature, "Wearable Art" format. A prestigious addition to any collection.
